Composition – Piperacillin 4 mg and Tazobactam- 0.5mg Injection

Classification – Antibiotic for ICU care

What is Piperaxis?

It is a combination of two types of antibiotics. Piperaxis injection is widely used in ICUs and for critically ill patients in hospitals to prevent the spread of life-threatening infections.

  • • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • • Ventilator-associated pneumonia
  • • Severe skin infection
  • • Septic shock
  • • Intra-abdominal infection
  • • Urinary tract infections

How does Piperaxis work?

Piperacillin – It distorts the cell wall of bacterial cells, leading to cell death.
Tazobactam – It is used to prolong the effect of piperacillin and reduce resistance.

The administered dose should be monitored to achieve the blood concentration.

  • • Vancomycin
  • • Aminoglycosides
  • • Anticoagulants

Administration Instructions

  • • To be used as a slow IV infusion over 30 minutes.
  • • It should not be mixed with Lactated Ringer’s solution.
  • • Do not mix with blood or other drugs.

Contraindications

  • • Do not use in case of severe allergy to the drug or its component.
  • • In a severe medical condition.

Storage of Piperaxis Injection

  • • Dry powder can be stored at room temperature.
  • • The reconstituted solution can be stored at 2-8 degree Celsius for 48 hours.
  • • Do not use diluted solutions stored at room temperature beyond 24 hours.
