Uses of Dasakast
Dasakast is used as a first-line treatment for –
- • Myeloid Leukemia (Chronic)
- • Lymphoblastic leukemia (Acute)
How does Dasakast work?

Common side effects
- • Fluid retention, oedema
- • Lowering of blood count
- • Nausea
- • Diarrhea
- • Skin ulcers and rashes
Toxicities
- • Bone Marrow suppression – low blood count, RBC, WBC, and Platelets
- • Pleural effusion- shortness of breath, fluid buildup around the lungs
- • Hematological toxicity – bleeding risk, decreased platelet count
- • Hepatotoxicity – elevated enzymes AST and alkaline phosphatase
- • QT Prolongation- irregular heartbeats, strokes
Contraindications
Not to be used in patients-
- • Hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the drug or its excipients.
- • Breast feeding mothers – it may be passed on to infants or breast feeding children
- • Pregnant women – it may cause teratogenicity.
Precautions
To be cautiously used in patients with –
- • Bleeding disorder
- • Cardiovascular diseases
- • Hepatic, renal impairment
- • Recent surgery or wound
- • Disorders of the stomach
