What is Dasakast?
Dasakast is an anticancer medicine used in targeted therapy treatments for blood cancers.
It is used in genetically mutated Philadelphia chromosome-induced leukemia.
Uses of Dasakast
It is used in resistant/intolerant –
- • Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
- • Acute Lymphocytic Lymphoma
How does Dasakast work?
- • It is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor.
- • It blocks abnormal proteins like BCR-ABL.
- • Shrink the tumor and stop the growth of cancer.
Common side effects
- • Low blood count
- • Fluid buildup in the lungs
- • Muscular pain
- • Joint pain
- • Diarrhea
- • Skin rashes
Dose-Dependent Toxicities
- • Bone Marrow Suppression – Bleeding, severely low blood count
- • QT prolongation –irregular heartbeat
- • Fluid retention in lungs
- • Hepatic function impairment –elevated liver enzymes
- • Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a serious side-effect, usually independent of the dose.
Contraindications
Not to be used in patients-
- • Hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the drug or its excipients.
- • Breastfeeding mothers – it may be passed on to infants or breastfeeding children
- • Pregnant women – it may cause teratogenicity.
